# The best live Q&A tools in 2026 (and which ones work on air)

URL: https://www.asktide.com/blog/best-live-qa-tools

Richard Frantzen, founder of AskTide. Updated 2026-11-04.

There is no single best live Q&A tool. The right one for a team meeting is the wrong one for a 2,000-person conference, and neither is built for a livestream with a switcher. This guide ranks Slido, Mentimeter, Vevox, Pigeonhole Live, Wooclap, Poll Everywhere, QuestionWall and AskTide by the job you actually have.

**Short answer:** For meetings, Slido is the safe default; for slide-based presentations, Mentimeter; for town halls and lectures, Vevox; for multi-track conferences, Pigeonhole Live; for classrooms, Wooclap or Poll Everywhere. For broadcast and live streams, where questions must appear as graphics in OBS or vMix, AskTide fits best, though it has no audience upvoting.

## How to choose a live Q&A tool

Every live Q&A tool lets an audience type a question on their phone. The differences are in what happens next: who decides which questions get answered, where those questions are shown, and how many people you can have before you hit the free-plan ceiling.

Start with three questions. Who picks the questions, the crowd (upvoting) or a moderator? Where will questions be shown, on a projector, inside a slide deck, inside Teams or Zoom, or as a graphic on a stream? And how big is the audience, ten people or ten thousand?

We ranked tools per use case rather than in a single league table, because a single ranking hides those trade-offs. All competitor facts are from the vendors' own pages, checked November 2026. We don't list Slido or Mentimeter prices because their pricing pages need JavaScript and we couldn't verify them; follow the links for current pricing.

- **Upvoting:** lets the audience surface the most popular questions. Great in a trusted room; easy to game on a public link.
- **Pre-moderation:** questions are reviewed before anyone sees them. Essential for public events, often a paid feature.
- **Anonymous questions:** raises participation in internal town halls and classrooms.
- **No login for the audience:** joining by link, code or QR code without creating an account.
- **Output:** projector view, slide integration, meeting-app integration, or a broadcast graphic.

## The best live Q&A tools, ranked by use case

### 1. Slido

*Best for: meetings and corporate events · Free plan: yes (limits on Slido's pricing page)*

Slido is the default many organizations reach for, and for good reason. Its [live Q&A](https://www.slido.com/features-live-qa) lets everyone see and upvote each other's questions, offers moderation so you can review incoming questions before participants see them, supports anonymous questions, and adds labels and a highlight for the question being answered. The interface is available in [40 languages, including Swedish](https://community.slido.com/setting-up-a-slido-82/change-the-language-for-your-slido-434).

### 2. Mentimeter

*Best for: presentations built around interactive slides · Free plan: Q&A for up to 50 participants*

Mentimeter, a Swedish company, is interactive presentation software where Q&A sits next to polls and quizzes in a slide deck. [Its Q&A](https://www.mentimeter.com/features/live-questions-and-answers) lets participants upvote, keeps questions anonymous by default, and gives the presenter controls to highlight, prioritize and dismiss. Pre-moderation, where you approve questions before they show, needs a Pro, Conference or Enterprise plan according to [Mentimeter's help](https://help.mentimeter.com/en/articles/1840522-moderate-your-q-a-session-to-ensure-a-great-experience). The [voting page is available in 32 languages including Swedish](https://help.mentimeter.com/en/articles/465592-how-can-i-change-the-language-in-mentimeter), while the presenter interface is in English, German, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

- Pro: polished slides with Q&A built in
- Pro: Swedish voting page, anonymous by default
- Con: pre-moderation only on higher plans
- Con: the [free plan](https://www.mentimeter.com/plans) allows a maximum of 2 questions per presentation

*Best for: classrooms and lectures · Free plan: 5 active questions per 30 days*

Wooclap is aimed at education. Its [Message Wall](https://docs.wooclap.com/en/articles/1501778-message-wall) has optional likes, moderator categories, hides participants' names from each other and accepts SMS participation. The free Starter plan allows 5 active questions per 30 days, a question counting as active after 3 or more unique responses, and the moderator interface comes with Pro, per [Wooclap's pricing article](https://docs.wooclap.com/en/articles/14402104-what-is-wooclap-s-pricing).

- Pro: education-first features, SMS participation
- Pro: likes can be switched on or off
- Con: tight free-plan limit for regular use

### 6. Poll Everywhere

*Best for: lecture halls that want both upvotes and downvotes · Free plan: audience of 40*

Poll Everywhere's [Q&A activity](https://blog.polleverywhere.com/poll-everywhere-qa-activity) supports upvoting and downvoting, lets the presenter see each item before sharing it on screen, and has an anonymous mode that hides submitters even from the presenter. The free Intro plan covers an audience of 40 on [its plans page](https://www.polleverywhere.com/plans). Language support is partial: instructions can be set in about 30 languages including Swedish, but [participants' response pages are still in English](https://support.polleverywhere.com/hc/en-us/articles/17504316869147-Language-setting-for-instructions).

- Pro: true anonymity, even from the presenter
- Pro: downvoting helps push unhelpful questions down
- Con: small free audience
- Con: response pages in English only

### 7. AskTide

*Best for: broadcast, live streams and webcast meetings · Free plan: free during beta, all features*

AskTide is the pick when questions have to appear on a live stream as graphics. The audience joins by link or QR code with no app and no account, and the page switches to Swedish for Swedish browsers. A producer or a moderator with a password-protected link moves questions through New, Selected, On Air and Done, and the on-air question appears on a transparent 1920×1080 browser source for OBS, vMix or TriCaster within a fraction of a second, styled as a card, lower third, ticker or full screen. Polls, name tags and a QR graphic run on the same output. AskTide has no audience upvoting: that is a deliberate choice so an editor, not a popularity contest, decides what goes on air. If you want the crowd to rank questions in a conference room, the tools above do that better.

- Pro: broadcast-ready transparent outputs, no chroma key
- Pro: moderator link that only shows questions
- Pro: free during beta
- Con: no audience upvoting
- Con: no Teams, Zoom or YouTube chat integrations

### 8. QuestionWall

*Best for: small events on a budget, with some broadcast extras · Free plan: 3 events per month*

[QuestionWall](https://questionwall.com/en) has upvoting, moderation, anonymous questions, polls and quizzes, plus a broadcast studio with an OBS browser source, lower thirds, ticker, countdown and confidence monitor. Paid plans are around $5 a month (20 events) or $10 a month (unlimited) on [its pricing page](https://questionwall.com/en/pricing), which doesn't say which plan includes the broadcast studio.

- Pro: low cost and a usable free plan
- Pro: combines room Q&A and some stream graphics
- Con: browser source transparency not stated
- Con: no Swedish in the language switcher

## Is there a free live Q&A tool?

Yes, almost every tool here has a free tier, but the limits are in different places. Vevox and Pigeonhole Live cap participants at 100, Poll Everywhere at an audience of 40, and Mentimeter at 50 participants with a maximum of 2 questions per presentation. Wooclap limits active questions rather than people. QuestionWall limits events per month. AskTide is free during its beta with all features and unlimited sessions.

The feature you most often lose on a free plan is pre-moderation. If your event is public, check that moderation is included before you pick a free tier, because unmoderated questions on a projector or a stream are a risk you don't need.

## Anonymous Q&A tools and Q&A apps with no login

Most tools in this list let the audience join without an account, usually by code, link or QR code. Anonymity is handled differently: Mentimeter is anonymous by default, Vevox makes it optional, Wooclap hides names from other participants, and Poll Everywhere's anonymous mode hides submitters from the presenter too. In AskTide the name field is optional, and the operator chooses whether a submitter's name is shown on the graphic.

For internal town halls, anonymity usually increases the number and honesty of questions. For public meetings, a moderator matters more than anonymity settings; our guides on [how to moderate a live Q&A](https://www.asktide.com/blog/how-to-moderate-a-live-qa) and the [town hall Q&A checklist](https://www.asktide.com/blog/town-hall-qa-checklist) cover the workflow.

## Which live Q&A tools work on air?

Meeting and classroom tools are designed for a projector or a slide. That works in a room, but on a stream it usually means screen-capturing a presenter view or chroma-keying a green background, as Slido users describe in the [Slido community](https://community.slido.com/slido-use-cases-140/slido-for-youtube-like-live-hd-broadcasting-4764). Broadcast teams want a browser source with a transparent background that they can position and style like any other graphic.

Of the tools above, AskTide and QuestionWall describe a browser source for OBS, and AskTide's outputs are transparent at 1920×1080. Outside this list, Q&A Events offers a transparent OBS overlay on its Pro tier. For a step-by-step setup, see [how to show audience questions on screen in OBS](https://www.asktide.com/blog/show-audience-questions-on-screen-obs), the [OBS Studio guide](https://www.asktide.com/guides/obs-studio) or the [vMix guide](https://www.asktide.com/guides/vmix).

> Hybrid event? Use one queue for both the room and the stream, and show the QR code on screen as well as on the stage. See [hybrid event Q&A](https://www.asktide.com/blog/hybrid-event-qa).
